Snooker Team Laegue – Week 1

The snooker season finally started last Tuesday.

 

Mechs A    0  V  4  Tower Pirates

 

Due to holidays, only 4 frames have been played so far in this match. First up was Paul Bradbury v Scott Le Noa. Scott ran out the winner 2 – 0 winning his frames 55-32 and 62-33. Next up was Ruyan Swann against Ben Garnier. Again, Ben won his two frames, winning the second frame on the black.

 

Tower Devils   5   v    3     Tower A

 

Tower Devils started the season with a win against last years Champions, Tower A. First up was Nat Morgan against Brett Campbell. After losing the first frame 43 – 59, Nat won the second by 71 – 56.  Next up was Steven Rive against Matt Cox. Steven won both frames by 75 – 62 and 81 – 22 in the second to give the Devils a 3-1 lead. Dan Cavey then shared the spoils with Guy Heys, winning the first 59 – 39 before Guy won the second 72-38. In the final match, Andrew Vibert took on Carl James. Needing both frames to get the draw, Carl won the first by 64 – 36 . However, in a high scoring game and potting the final black, Andrew won 72-70 to confirm the win.

 

Mechs B    4   v   4    St Thomas Tower

 

First up was Jersey’s oldest player against Jersey’s youngest player. At the ripe old age of 92, Bob Rondel took on last years averages winner Archie Greir. And despite being cut down to +7, Archie came out winning 2 – 0 by 70 – 58 and 71 – 44 respectively. Archie also scored an impressive 45 break. Next up was Sam Duncan and Peter Robinson. After losing the 1st frame 58 – 71, Sam won the second by 55 – 43 to make the score 3 – 1 in St Thomas Tower’s favour. Paul Bullock  versus Bob Denison was next up with Paul coming out  a 2 – 0 winner with frame  scores of 56 – 35 and 60 – 20 to make the overall score 3 -3. The final match was between Jeremy Gogan and newcomer Ray Ubsdell. Ray won the first frame by 74 – 35. However the second frame was a different story.  An immaculate break of 88 by Jeremy tied the match at 4 – 4. Jeremy was on for a ton but unfortunately missed a pink with all the colours left.

 

Tower Sharks   7  v  1    Mechs Jersey Cows

 

Tower Sharks take an early lead in the League with a convincing 7 – 1 home win against Mechs Jersey Cows.  Back after a few years out, Rob Newton took on Aaron Canavan. Rob won the first frame 104 – 70 before Aaron hit back and took the second on the black, 104 – 98. Next up was Alan Cook against debutant Jordi Etchells. Jordi, one of Jersey’s top pool players lost his 2 frames by 52 – 23 and 60 – 34 respectively.  Next up was Aubrey Rive against Jack Canavan. Aubrey won his 2 frames beating Jack by 61 – 41 in the first frame and 71 – 41 in the second. Last up was Clive De Souse against another top pool player playing his debut season in Danny Brannan. Clive again came on top for the Sharks with frame scores of 80 – 31 in the first and 67 – 57 in the second.
