Aaron Canavan retained the Island Snooker Championship last Thursday evening at the Jersey Mechanics Institute.
Playing Karl Le Fevre, Aaron started off well with a 38 break to give him a decent lead with 3 reds left. However Karl got in and mustered a 35 break, before missing a difficult pink whilst needing that and the black. After a couple of safety shots Aaron potted the pink to win the frame.
In the second frame, Aaron again got in early and with a possible break of 143 on, he made a well controlled 108 break. He unfortunately broke down with 1 red left after he potted the black and ended up touching ball on the last red.
The third frame was a lot closer and after a couple of missed pots by both players, Karl got a lead with Aaron requiring a snooker with the brown, blue, pink and black left. Whilst Aaron got a snooker, Karl got out of it and a few shots later potted the balls to make the score 2-1 in Aaron’s favour at the interval.
In the 4th frame, it was another close affair and after Aaron had made a good start, Karl reeled off another 30 odd break to level it up with a red left. However Aaron got in and found himself 18 ahead with the blue left. With a tricky cut back into the middle bag, Aaron missed it and left Karl in to clear up to tie the frame. With the scores level a re-spotted black ensued. Karl had the first realistic chance to tie the match up with a double on the black. Unfortunately he missed it and although he left the white just off the bottom cushion, the black was up near the yellow spot. And from there, Aaron potted a great black to take the frame and lead 3 – 1.
The fifth frame was another tight affair with Karl having a chance on the colours to win his second frame. However, Aaron got the chance to finish the match and did so to win 4-1 overall.
The JBSA’s vice president Howard Smith presented Aaron with the trophy and thanked the Jersey Mechanics for hosting the final.
The JBSA would also like to thank Howard for reffing the final.
Unfortunately as i was playing, i don’t know if anyone was keeping the scores. However if you do have them then please provide them to me by email and i will update this write up.
