Canavan and Le Fevre advance to Snooker Final

The semi final of the Island Snooker was played on Thursday 19th March.

First up was Island Champion Aaron Canavan versus 4th seed Jeremy Gogan.

After a few safety shots, Aaron was presented with a long red to which he potted and went on to make a fine 73 break to take the frame 73 – 0. The second frame was a little scrappier then the first. However with the scores at 16 – 3 in Aarons favour, he compiled a 43 break to take the frame 59-3.

The third frame ended up with the reds quite open and Jeremy 6 – 0 up.  And with an Aaron miss, Jeremy had the chance to get in amongst the balls. However he missed a cut into the midde which left Aaron in. And continuing his fine form that evening, compiled an 81 break to take the match 3-0.

In the second semi final, number 2 seed Karl Le Fevre took on Danny Brannan.

Karl went into a 2 frame to nil lead winning the first 53 – 36 and the second 61 – 24 which included a 34 break.  However in the 3rd, Danny took control and kept Karl to very minimum chances and he eventually won the frame by 46 – 3 to make it 2-1.

The fourth frame was a tight affair early on with the reds up at the baulk end, both players were stuck with rolling the red into the pack from the black end. However after a lenghly battle, Karl got in to make a 32 break to leave Danny requiring snookers with a red left. Then with an excellent shot, Danny got the required snooker and potted the red and black and got nicely on the yellow with the balls all pottable. However a miss on the yellow allowed Karl to leave Danny needing snookers again and after several efforts by Danny  to get the snookers, Karl won the frame by 61-29 to win the match overall 3-1.

Many thanks to Howard Smith for reffing both matches and the Jersey Mechanics for hosting.

The final will be on Thursday 2nd April at the Jersey Mechanics, commencing at 19:30.
