Canavan wins CI Snooker Title

Aaron Canavan capped off another great season by winning the Channe Islands Snooker title in Guernsey recently.

Playing Guernsey Champion Paul Le Sauvage, Le Sauvage felt the full force of an Aaron Canavan onslaught as he fell to a 5-0 defeat in the Channel Islands Snooker Championship final at the North Social Club. Canavan – now a record extending 12-times CI champion – put on a masterclass in denying Le Sauvage any notable chances, and rounded off the match with a brilliant century.

Right from the start, after Le Sauvage had gone in-off from his first shot, Canavan punished the Guernsey champion, securing the first frame with a break of 71. The next saw Canavan’s 43 make it 2-0 with a little over half an hour of play gone, and most of Le Sauvage’s 18 points had come in fouls.

A break of 50 duly made it 3-0 but, in the last frame before the interval, Le Sauvage finally gained some traction to move 30-1 ahead, but again Canavan found the answers to respond with a 33 and 28.

The fifth frame saw Le Sauvage take the early initiative once more, only for Canavan to grab the chance he was looking for in sealing another title with a majestic 101 break.
