After several years of defeats, the Jersey Billiards Team, consisting of Martyn Le Gallais (Capt), Clayton Coates, Guy Heys and Karl Le Fevre won the Team Inter Insular against Guernsey at the North Social Club recently.
In the first set of games of times matches of 45 minutes, honours were even at 2 – 2 after Guy beat Guernsey Island Champion Paul Le Sauvage and Karl beat Ian Le Maitre in a tight affair. Martyn and Clayton both lost, with Clayton losing with 2 seconds left on the clock after missing a pot to the middle to win his game.
In the next quarter, the Jersey Team flexed its muscles winning 3 of the 4 matches, with Guy, Karl and Clayton winning their matches against Ian Le Maitre, Paul Le Sauvage and Steve Le Poidevin respectively. Miles Plumley beat Martyn to gain Guernsey’s only point.
With 2 points for a win, Jersey were 10 – 6 up at the halfway stage.
In the 3rd quarter, Martyn had a fine win against Paul by 121 – 81and Clayton also won with a sizeable 176 – 81 win over Ian. With Guy also beating Steve, and Karl losing to Mikes, Jersey had a lead of 16 points to 8, needing only one more win to win the tie.
The last quarter matches were halved overall with Guy remaining unbeaten, winning his 4th match against Miles and Martyn beating Ian. Karl lost to Steve whilst Clayton also lost to Paul.
In total, Guy won all 4 of his matches, with Karl, Martyn and Clayton all winning 2 of their 4.
